Sunday was Day 2 of the Vees Prep Camp at the SOEC as the Vees work towards opening up Main Camp on August 23rd. The players made noticeable improvements over Day 1, as there seemed to be a quicker pace to most drills and better execution as well.
On Saturday I spoke with Cody DePourcq, discussing preparation for opening night on September 7th. On Sunday I conversed with Assistant Coach Steve Cawley to get a coach’s perspective on the two days of camp thus far, and what he expects to see heading into Main Camp later next week.
Cawley points out the overall speed at camp and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by many who’ve watched any part of Prep Camp. Regardless of who will be on the final roster, the 22 players will be fleet of foot and that will be one of the main characteristics of this team. Cawley also made a good follow-up point, saying a fast team doesn’t mean a soft team. Like last season, this year’s squad will be an aggressive puck pursing team that goes hard after its opponent on the fore-check. It’s only August 20th but already you can notice some buzz starting to form around this group,
Day 3 of Prep Camp gets underway this morning at nine and below is the daily schedule for those who are interested in stopping by the SOEC this week.
