Alumni Three Stars of the Week (Oct 22-28)

1. Joel Rumpel: The Junior netminder was stellar last weekend in a series against the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. Rumpel stopped 64 of 66 shots in a win and a tie at the 14th ranked ‘Dogs. On Friday, Rumpel picked up his first career shutout, making 29 saves in a 2-0 win. One night later Rumpel kicked aside 35 of 27 shots in a 2-2 tie, while recording double-digit save totals in three of the four periods. His weekend earned him Red Baron WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honours.

2. Joey Laleggia: Denver has steam-rolled their competition in their first four games and Laleggia has been a big reason why. The sophomore has points in all four games for the Pios’ including two goals and three points in a weekend sweep of Michigan Tech last week. Denver is 4-0-0 (WCHA: 2-0-0) and have put up five goals in each of their first four games. Laleggia has three goals and six points and sits second in the nation in scoring by defensemen.

3. Steven Fogarty: Has the Freshman found his scoring touch? After being held scoreless in his first five games with the Irish, Fogarty potted his first two NCAA goals last Saturday, including the game-winner, in a 3-2 triumph over Northern Michigan. The Irish are another team off to a great start, 5-1-0  (CCHA: 2-0-0) through their first six and showing no signs of slowing down. Fogarty, like many freshman, has had to adjust to the higher level of play of college hockey. Remember, “Fogs” had an adjustment period with the Vees coming from high school hockey last season; something tells me he’s going to be OK.

Honourable Mention: Curtis Loik (Penn State / 1-0-1 vs Sacred Heart) Ben Sexton (Clarkson / 0-3-3 vs Niagara) Bryan Mountain (Northeastern / 44 saves vs. New Hampshire 0-0 tie)
