Stecher OT Hero; West 2-0 at WJAC

Troy Stecher scored 1:22 into overtime, as Team Canada West won 4-3 over Russia at the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia Wednesday. Wade Murphy assisted on the goal, throwing a pass to Stecher who walked in down the right-wing and buried short-side over the Russian goalie.

Murphy opened the scoring for TCW and fished the game with three points. James De Haas assisted on TCW’s go-ahead goal in the third period when Aaron Hadley pounced on a rebound. TCW is now 2-0 and earns a bye into the Semi-Finals on Friday.

Stecher was named the Player of the Game for TCW for his overtime heroics. What a difference a year makes, as Stecher was a 7th defenseman last year in Langley and now is playing top-four minutes and scoring in OT.
