The Set Up: The Vees and Centennials meet for the second time in five days as the season-series shifts to Nicola Valley Arena. Friday the Cents’ took the opener 3-2 at the SOEC, then handing the Vees their third-straight loss. Merritt bumped their two-game win-less slide with that victory and now have a modest two-game winning-streak underneath their belts.
The Vees are looking to avoid their fifth straight loss and there’s good news. Four of their five regulars that were absent last week are back for tonight’s contest. Troy Stecher and James de Haas will be on the blue-line and Wade Murphy and Dexter Dancs will be back upfront. Mike Rebry aggravated a lower-body injury at the WJAC and won’t see action tonight or this weekend.
The Vees Beat: The biggest news of the day is the three-team, four player trade the Vees pulled off with the Power River Kings and Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Gone are Noah Henry (Powell River) and Alex Jewell (Salmon Arm). New to the fold is defenseman, and 20 year-old Sean Flanagan. The newest member of the Vees will wear number 65 and will play along side Troy Stecher tonight.
The Vees, buoyed, by a nearly full line-up will be hungry to return the favour and take a win at Merritt’s barn. The Cents’ are a good hockey team, only two points back of the Vees with a game in hand. The Vees can’t fall into the trap of handing the keys over to their returnees and expect them to do all the heavy lifting, No doubt they are getting quality, go-to players back in their line-up but by no means can the five do it on their own. The Vees will be only dressing 11 forwards and seven defenseman tonight; all 18 will have to be engaged and contributing for this team to have a chance at two points.
