Vees & Vipers Make a Deal?

It’s been over nine years but the Penticton Vees and Vernon Vipers made a trade on Tuesday. The Vees sent Dexter Dancs (95) to the Vipers for fellow forward Jedd Soleway (94).

The trade is the first between the two longtime rivals since October 2003, when the Vipers dealt defenseman Jason Buckle to Penticton for future considerations.

Official Vipers Story

Even though Soleway is one year older, both can be considered the same age in hockey. Dancs, will play one more season after this year before heading off to Michigan in the fall of 2014. Soleway will, I assume if all goes well, pick up a scholarship over the next two seasons and most likely won’t be around for his 20 year-old season; if not the Vees in fact get a player for a “bonus” year.

Soleway is physically more mature than Dancs and that’s what the Vees I think were looking for upfront; some size and grit. I came away impressed by the two most recent games Soleway played against the Vees. In the weekend split two weeks ago, Soleway centered a line with Aaron Hadley and Braeden Russell and the three were probably the Vipers best line in those two games.

The Vernon native not only has a physical element to his game, but has  shown he he has an offensive touch. This season he put up 16 points in 26 games for the Vipers and is a guy that can be used on the power-play,which I’m sure we will see him there at some point in the near future.

I will have more on the trade tomorrow, including an interview with the newest Vee.

Vees Press Release:

The Penticton Vees Jr. ‘A’ Hockey Club has traded forward Dexter Dancs (’95) to the Vernon Vipers for forward Jedd Soleway (’94).

The trade is the first between the two divisional rivals in nine years, dating back to October of 2003. Then the Vipers sent defenseman Jason Buckle to Penticton for future considerations.

Soleway, 18, was in his second season with the Vipers, picking up five goals and 11 assists in 26 games. In 84 games the Vernon native has tallied 18 goals and 41 points. Soleway came to Vernon via the Okanagan Rockets of the British Columbia Major Midget League (BCMML), where he put up 16 goals and 33 points in 40 games in 2010-2011. Soleway will add a physical presence up front, standing at 6’3 and weighing in at 208 pounds.

Dancs, 17, was in his first season with the Vees after appearing in 15 games last season as an AP. Dancs had two goals and five points in 24 games and appeared in the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s (CJHL) Prospects Game in November. The North Vancouver native played last season in the Kootenay International Junior hockey League (KIJHL) with the Osoyoos Coyotes, scoring 67 points in 42 games.

The Penticton Vees organization would like to thank Dexter for his contributions to the Vees, and wish him all the best in his future with Vernon. Jedd will wear number 24 for the Vees and will make his debut on Friday when the Vees host the Merritt Centennials at the SOEC; face-off is 7pm.”
