The two audio clips above, just goes to show the highs and lows of playoff hockey. I will keep this short tonight and have my full thoughts tomorrow.
First off, congrats to the Surrey Eagles players, coaches and organization on their first championship in eight years. Matt Erhart is one of the “good guys” to deal with in the BCHL and really enjoyed my pre-game interviews with the Eagles bench boss. The Eagles were a great group to deal with this season and are of the franchises that do it the right way; hard to not like them. They have some great talent and character on that roster. All the best at the Western Canada Cup in Nanaimo.
I can’t say enough about the group I was around for the past eight months; a special group of kids. This was one of the most exciting playoff runs I been associated with and this group of Vees were a great bunch. They were really a close crew and it showed in the playoff run. A lot of guys played hurt and I mean hurt. It’s weird knowing the season is over, as this team had all the makings of another long run into May. Hockey can be a cruel mistress sometimes and this series showed why. No reason for this team to be ashamed of anything though. Tonight they left it all out on the ice and busted their ass. Proud of what I saw from the team tonight, in this series and these playoffs.
What a hockey game it was tonight. I will go out on a limb and say the most exciting game I’ve seen in the BCHL The RBC Cup FInal was something special no question, but tonight had a bit of everything. There was drama, a comeback, back-and-forth action and the crowd was right into it. What a great atmosphere, as over three thousand fans packed the SOEC; thank you Penticton. The players won’t soon forget the support you should tonight.
This may sting, it will for a bit, but the pain will pass and what’s left is the memories of another special season in the South Okanagan. I couldn’t of asked for more this season, thank you.
