New logo. New name. But same old good hockey.
The Vancouver Canucks were in Penticton on Thursday to announce the Young Stars tournament will be returning in September. Now known as the Young Stars Classic (formerly tournament), the five day event will have five NHL teams showing their top prospects in a round robin format. The Canucks prospects will be joined by the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets and San Jose Sharks prospects at the SOEC.
I spoke with Stan Smyl from the Canucks about the tournament, scouting college hockey and the BCHL. Stan has a connection to the area, as he has a summer residence in Summerland and did play in the BCJHL with the Bellingham Blazers. His brother Harvey is the Head Coach and GM of the Chilliwack Chiefs.
