A handful of hockey federations released their orientation camp rosters ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. USA Hockey unveiled its’ 48-man roster yesterday and former Vee Beau Bennett is one of the invitees.
The U.S. Men’s National Team Orientation Camp is scheduled for August 26 & 27 at the Washington Capitals training facility in Arlington, Virginia.
Bennet split time with the Pittsburgh Penguins and their farm club the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins last season. In 26 games with the Pens, the Gardena, California native collected three goals and 14 points. Bennett added one more goal in six post-season games before the Penguins were swept by the Boston Bruins. In the AHL with the Baby Pens, Bennett racked up seven goals and 28 points in 39 games. Those AHL numbers earned him an All-Star nod but he did not play due to an illness.
Quite the honour for the up and coming Penguins forward, who by all accounts will have every opportunity to play in Pittsburgh’s top-six in 2013-14. The Olympic camp will be a great experience for the ex-Vee, even though there might not be any on-ice activity due to insurance issues. Regardless, a feather in the cap for Bennett who’s making great strides in his pro career.
