Playing Catch Up

(The goal this season is see this a lot more at the SOEC)

Dusting off the keyboard to catch up on some news worthy items around the Vees. Firstly, the teams “30 Day” season ticket campaign closed yesterday at 5pm. The response has been nothing short of amazing. Yes, that’s a strong word but when all the applications are processed and the numbers tallied, you’ll be impressed. I will have more on the campaign in the coming days. Like I said, when I get the numbers, I will have a full write-up on the month-long campaign. I will quickly send out a sincere thank you to everyone in Penticton and area who jumped on board to support the team this year. Your response was outstanding and I continue to be humbled by the support this team gets (must be getting dusty in here…). It’s honestly hard not to get somewhat emotional when thinking about this past month, all the hard work that was put into this campaign and the response from our fans who answered the call-again.

There is more great news, as the team officially extended the season ticket campaign for another week for kids 17 and under. So, until Monday, August 26th, families can purchase season tickets at the same discounted rate plus have their children get in FREE. Parents need to buy a pair of season tickets and their kids (17 and under) will also receive a seasons pass. All the details on the extended sale can be found on the Vees website HERE. Again, if parents buy a pair of season tickets, their children will get a FREE seasons pass. This is similar to the minor hockey program the Vees rolled out and that proved to be quite successful. If you have any questions, phone the Vees season ticket hotline: 250-809-1390

The Vees officially hit the ice this weekend with the start of the Junior Prep Camp. Players have been arriving the last two weeks and been on the ice taking part in informal scrimmages, but this weekend marks the first team function for the 2013-2014 hockey season. The Prep Camp is a precursor to the Vees Main Camp which kicks-off on August 22nd. Roughly forty-five players will be on the ice starting Saturday morning for drills, skill sessions and scrimmages. There are two ice sessions a day for the forty-five players which will be split into two groups. The Prep Camp runs through to August 21st and from there the Vees will mold a Main Camp roster.

The Vees returning players and recruits from this past off-season will be taking part in the Prep Camp, so it’s a chance for the public to see some of the players that will make up this years squad. There will be spots to battle for at Main Camp, so there will be some new faces at the Prep Camp and no, I can’t tell you who they are.

Unfortunately, I won’t be around for the first two days of Prep Camp so I won’t be able to provide daily updates over the weekend. I will be heading out to Vancouver Island to attend to a family matter. I will have plenty of updates and recaps come Monday when I return to Penticton. The Prep and Main Camp are open to the public and are free of charge; both camps will be at the SOEC.

Prep Camp Schedule:

August 17th – August 21st (SOEC)

Ice Group 1  9:00am – 10:15am
Ice Group 2  10:30am – 11:45am
Combined Dryland 12:15pm – 1:15pm
Ice Group 1  2:30pm – 3:45pm
Ice Group 2 4:00pm – 5:15pm
