The Vees Main Camp opened up on Thursday at the SOEC, which marks the official start of the 2013-2014 season. The day started off with Fitness testing, as the team put the players through their paces. The highlight as it usually is, was the bench press, where there were some impressive numbers put up.
As the picture and caption illustrates, incoming defenseman Chris Rygus put on a show, rattling off 32 reps at 155 lbs for a camp best; kid is a specimen.
Last night was the first of three intrasquad games, as the Camp was split into two teams (Black & Blue) for a best-of-three series. I also made my coaching debut, as I was behind the bench for Black. Blue to the first game 7-4 and maybe Black can point fingers at their rookie coach. The two teams practice this morning starting at 10:30 before the second intrasquad game gets underway at 6pm.
Near the end of Prep Camp I spoke with Ryan Gropp about his summer, committing to North Dakota and attending Team Canada’s U-18 Summer Camp.
