Two down, one to go. Day two is in the books at the Vees Main Camp, which saw Black even the best-of-three series with blue at one game apiece. Blue actually had a 3-0 lead heading into the third period but Black stormed back for five unanswered to split the first two games; the third and deciding game set for noon tomorrow.
A big hit by Anthony Conti at the blue-line seemed to turn the tide and light a fire underneath Black early in the third period; everyone in the rink was awake after that jolt. The game didn’t start off so hot as Blue took a 1-0 lead into the break on a nice finish by Matt Serratore after he was sprung on a partial break by Brett Beauvais, who is having a great camp by the way. The first was a tad sloppy but the second and third periods were much butter as both teams cranked it up a few notches. In the final forty-minutes both teams were sharper, especially in their respective ends and the urgency in both teams was noticeable.
Brad McClure scored the goal of the night after he kept the puck on a two-on-one rush and went bar-down on the glove side, as he helped get Black back into the game in the third. McClure had Ryan Gropp on his right; not many would say no to that option. Speaking of McClure, I chatted with him after the second intrasquad game to get his take on the first forty-eight hours of Main Camp.
