The Vees are in Salmon Arm Friday to start another home-and-home series, this time with their Interior neighbours to the north, the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. The back half of the double-dip is set for Saturday in Penticton; 6pm face-off at the SOEC,

The two haven’t met since the Vees disposed of the ‘Backs in four games in the Interior Division playoffs last spring. The next time Penticton and Salmon Arm hook-up is October 4th and once again at the Shaw Centre. Vees fans don’t get to see the ‘Backs until January 18th when they make their first visit to the SOEC.

Penticton is off to a good start in pre-season action, as they’ve yet to lose in three contests. The Vees tied and beat West Kelowna on Sunday and Monday, and most recently downed the Trail Smoke Eaters 3-1 Wednesday. Defensively this team has been in fine form, only conceding four goals in three games and have kept their opponent under 30 shots in all three contests.

The Gorillas have three pre-season tilts under their belt, most recently dropping a 7-5 decision to Vernon last Saturday. Salmon Arm bested the Snakes 5-1 one night earlier but fell to Merritt in their pre-season opener 2-1 on August 22nd.Salmon Arm has a healthy contingent of returning players, mixed with a solid recruiting class brought in over the summer. Evan Anderson, Alex Jewell and Mitch Ferguson, all former Vees, are three of the holdovers from last season.

The Vees have trimmed down their roster to 22 as they fine-tune their game ahead of the Bauer BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack. Tonight’s line-up, with the exception of 15 year-old Tyson Jost, will look similar to what will hit the ice next Friday against Victoria,

Game time is 7pm from the Shaw Centre. Fans can watch online via Fasthockey or listen through the Vees Mixlr channel.
