Big news for Brett Beauvais, as the Vees rear-guard was named one of five finalists for the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Top Defenseman Award.
Background on the award from the CJHL:
“Five Canadian Junior Hockey League defenceman have been selected as finalists for the 2014 CJHL Top Defenceman Award. The award recognizes the most outstanding defenceman in the CJHL. The award criteria is based on individual performance during the 2013-2014 regular season.
Each of the 10 leagues in the CJHL submitted a candidate for the Top Defenceman Award. A representative from all 10 Junior A leagues then ranked their top five choices from among the 10 national nominees and the rankings were assigned a point value. The five players with the highest point total moved on as finalists to the final round of voting.“
Beauvais had an outstanding 2013-2014 season, as he was the fourth straight Vees rear-guard to win the BCHL Top Defenseman award, as he led all blue-liners in the league with 58 points and 45 assists, which was fifth-best in the BCHL. The Summerside, P.E.I product was second in the BCHL in power-play assists with 25 and his 33 power-play points ranked third in the BCHL. Beauvais had 15 multi-point games this past season and had a five-game goal streak from November 29th, to December 7th, and had 19 points in 11 games in November. Beauvais was named to the BCHL’s First All-Star team.
The CJHL will announce the Top Defensemen Award winner during the week of May 5th-9th.
