McKenzie Shines Bright in Texas

Another former Vee ended his pro season on a winning note, as Curtis McKenzie and the Texas Stars won the AHL’s Calder Cup on Tuesday night. Texas, the Dallas Stars affiliate, beat the St. John’s IceCaps 4-1 in the Final, capping off their first Calder Cup title with an overtime win in Game Five in St. John’s.

McKenzie had a solid playoffs for the Stars in his first pro season, as the former Vee had three goals and 14 points in 21 games. In the Calder Cup Final he had impressive numbers as well, scoring once and finishing with five points in as many games. This on the back of his breakout regular season campaign, where he notched 27 goals and collected 65 points in 75 games, en route to being named the AHL Rookie of the Year.
