The Penticton Vees lift the curtain on the 2014-2015 BCHL regular season tonight at the Bauer Showcase in Chilliwack. The Vees square-off against the Mainland Division’s Surrey Eagles, a team they met in the 2013 Fred Page Cup Final. Cam Amantea and Cody DePourcq are the only holdovers from that Final.
The Vees are the youngest team in the BCHL as their average age on their 22-man roster is an even 18 (tidbit courtesy of eliteprospects.com). The Vees however won’t be hiding behind that stat through this season, as they expect some of their youngest players to be key contributors. 16-year-olds Dante Fabbro and Tyson Jost will be serve important roles, as will the likes of Liam Finlay, Gabe Bast, Miles Gendron and Brendan Barry to name a few. The veterans will be counted on to lead the way through the first game of the season; plenty of anxious energy in the dressing room tonight.
The Vees line-up will be very similar to the one they iced on Sunday in their exhibition finale. Cam Amantea remains out, recovering from off-season surgery but is getting closer to game action. Connor Russell will sit out on the blue-line this evening.
I’ll have a much more detailed post-game write-up on the blog, recapping the season opener against the Surrey Eagles. Join Trevor Miller and myself at 7:10pm PST tonight on EZ Rock AM 800.
