Today the NCHC and WCHC college hockey conference announced their weekly award winners and two former Vees made the grade. Denver Senior Joey Laleggia was named the NCHC Defenseman of the Week and Alaska-Anchorage Freshman Olivier Mantha was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week.

From the Denver Pioneers Press Release:

Leggia, 22, scored two goals (both on the power play) and dished out two assists for four points this past weekend, helping the Pioneers capture a two-game sweep of the St. Cloud State University Huskies at Magness Arena. The Hobey Baker Award candidate was named First Star of the Game in Friday’s 3-1 win over the Huskies and earned Third Star honors the following evening when DU defeated SCSU 4-1. He also registered a +4 plus/minus rating on the weekend and led all NCHC skaters with 14 total shots on goal on Friday/Saturday.

From the WCHA Press Release:

Mantha stopped 80 of 83 shots on the weekend, leading Alaska Anchorage to a pair of one-goal road wins in Fairbanks and a 2-0 lead in the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup. The freshman from La Tuque, Québec matched his career high with 46 saves Saturday night, allowing the Seawolves to escape with a 3-2, overtime win despite being outshot 48-16. Mantha also had 34 saves Friday, including nine in the third period, as UAA earned a 2-1 victory. With a .928 save percentage during his rookie campaign, Mantha is on pace to eclipse UAA’s single-season record of .921 (set in 2003-04 by Chris King.)
