The Penticton Vees have settled into their new surroundings in the Alberta north, as the team has landed in Fort McMurray for the 2015 Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup.

The team took off from Kelowna in the morning, had a one hour-ish layover in Calgary, before they caught their connecting flight to “McMurray.” I’m told the locals don’t call it “Fort Mac” up here, as it is Fort McMurray, not MacMurray, so they go with McMurray. Anyways, the team headed right to the rink (above), from the airport and got their gear loaded off the bus and into their dressing room-their new home for the next 13 days.

The Vees, along with the other three western champions all share one hallway on one side of the rink. The Vees dressing room is literally right behind the visitors bench at the Casman centre, and the Melfort Mustangs and Spruce Grove Saints are on either side of the hallway; intimate settings. It will be interesting on game days how the three teams coordinate with each other on sharing that hallway. The trainers will be busy! In all seriousness, the staff is super friendly and helpful around the rink, so I think the Vees are in great hands.

On to some hockey stuff, the BCHL has a couple of previews up on their website. One, is about the four other teams they’ll be facing at the tournament. The other preview was an interview I did with the league office, as we chatted about the BCHL Final and how the Vees are approaching the WCC.

Remember, our audio feed WON’T be on Fasthockey, as they have a host broadcast crew doing the games. If you want to listen to the Vees broadcast, make sure to tune into EZ Rock AM 800, as Trevor Miller and myself will bring you every Vees game here at the WCC. We will have half-hour pre-game shows for every broadcast, so keep that in mind when tuning in.
